紅襪「功夫熊貓」桑多弗(Pablo Sandoval)19日並未排在出戰勇士的先發9人名單中，原因竟是他在昨日比賽中，偷偷使用手機，並在社群網站留下紀錄。球團發現後，罰他今日坐在板凳區反省。大聯盟官方近日也會做出適當懲處。
紅襪昨日客場2比5敗給勇士後，桑多弗遭爆料指出，他在比賽過程中使用手機瀏覽社群網站「Instagram」，並對女性友人的照片按讚。紅襪證實消息後隨即做出懲處，總教練法瑞爾(John Farrell)說：「這是被禁止的，比賽中必須要關機，將注意力集中在賽場上。這令人感到失望，因為這個規則大家都知道。我們不能容忍，所以罰他今晚坐板凳。」
「我知道我搞砸了。」桑多弗說，「我當時在浴室，隨手拿起手機查看訊息。我做了錯誤示範，我會從中記取教訓。對其他隊友、球團以及球迷們感到非常抱歉。」
不只球團本身有規定，大聯盟的規範中也有明文指出，球員在賽前30分鐘開始，禁止在球場、牛棚、板凳席甚至休息室，使用手機、筆電等攜帶型通訊裝置。大聯盟發言人提凡(Michael Teevan)表示，將會審視桑多弗的違規事件，並做出適當懲處。
桑多弗季前以5年9500萬美元的大合約投效紅襪，但開季至今僅交出6轟、23打點，打擊率2成70的成績，守備上更出現9次失誤，未能打出明星級身手也讓球迷相當失望。
紅襪今日5比2擊敗勇士，但近10戰只拿下2勝，29勝39敗在美聯排名倒數第2，僅優於爐主運動家。
